Afternoon Snorkeling Tour

Great Snorkeling, a Family Favorite!
The Afternoon Kealakekua Snorkel Tour is one of the best-kept secrets around. Guests are essentially getting the popular morning tour without the meals (breakfast & lunch). Therefore, the overall cruise duration is shortened a bit, but with plenty of time to have fun snorkeling. Plus, afternoons in Kealakekua Bay are generally absent from other tour boat operators, providing a truly serene experience.

Departure/Return
The afternoon snorkel tour to Kealakekua Bay on the Fair Wind II departs Keauhou Bay at 2:00 PM and returns at 5:30 PM. Check-in at 1:30 PM. Bring towels, reef-safe sunscreen, sun hat, etc. (storage boxes available on the catamaran).

*NOTE: Our vessels are reef-safe sunscreen zones, and Hawai’i State Parks Department does not allow the use of chemical sunscreens. Complimentary environmentally-friendly mineral-based sunscreen is provided for our guests (available at check-in and aboard all vessels – and available for purchase in our gift shop.)

What if I’ve never snorkeled before?

We recommend the Fair Wind II for all people who are new to snorkeling. Kealakekua Bay is a very well protected bay that offers calm pool like conditions all year round. Both the Hula Kai and Fair Wind II conduct snorkel classes onboard the boat for anyone who is interested.
Is there any shade on your boats?

The Fair Wind II and Hula Kai each have shade canopies on both lower and upper decks, however sun-protection and light cover-up is still strongly recommended.
What do I need to bring on my snorkel cruise?

Towel, sunscreen, hat & sunglasses, camera, and warm cover-up is recommended.

We had the absolute pleasure yesterday of going on the afternoon snorkel cruise with the Fair Wind 2 crew. We have done lots of snorkeling in various countries either on our own or with tour companies. This tour yesterday definitely rated in our top two! I did a lot of research and we decided to go with Fair Wind and we are glad we did. Some people said the smaller boats were better…. the bigger boats had too many people etc. We did not find this at all…. did not feel crowded….extremely well organized and we were in the beautiful water in no time. The snorkeling around Captain Cook’s memorial is the best we have done in the State of Hawaii. The crew on the Fair Winds were so helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. Thank you Fair Winds for such a memorable trip snorkeling!!!!

The boat was large with plenty of space and storage for everyone. We were fitted for snorkel gear while on our way. Plenty of drinks and snacks available with bathrooms onboard. I recommend going down the slide and getting the full experience. We had a great time snorkeling and seeing the captain cook monument. Truly beautiful and a great way to start your vacation.

A friend who lives in Kona recommended the Fair Wind afternoon cruise. The staff and crew were all courteous and friendly and available at all times to answer questions and make everyone feel at ease. There are light snacks and drinks on board, but you can bring your own as well. Snuba is offered as an option for an additional $69. Tried it for the first time and Chris was an excellent snuba instructor. Snorkeling was outstanding. Clear waters and saw a large variety of marine life, including dolphins. Highly recommend.

What a fun afternoon on the water. I love to snorkel, my wife not so much, but we both thoroughly enjoyed this trip; Fair Winds personnel are so very accommodating. The boat handled rollers very well, to the point where the rollers were hardly noticed. Our destination was Kealakekua Bay which is very protected & calm, ideal for snorkeling. The boat was escorted into & out of the bay by a pod of 8 or 10 spinner dolphin diving in & out of our bow wave & we saw several whales along the way. The snorkeling was great; lots of fish of every shape & color in the rainbow, beautiful coral formations. Snacks along the way were good, plentiful & healthy along with lots of water & fruit juices. And the crew couldn’t have been more kind, helpful, or accommodating. Nice, nice day.

This cruise was incredible, the meals were very good, the crew was excellent, and the snorkeling was incredible. My family minus one we’re all brand new snorkelers and they had a little beginners class to familiarize us with the equipment and the process. My 5 year old was nervous at first but they gave him a viewing box to try out and as soon as he saw what was in the water he put the mask on and never looked back. They loved the water slides too. A great time that we definitely would do again when we come back.
