Whale expert Jonathan Opey accompanies each cruise, sharing his more than 20-year whale experience. First inspired by Jacques Cousteau to learn about the ocean and its mammalian inhabitants, Opey studied cetacean biology in college. He then traveled the world, studying whales while working with Greenpeace and supporting the Sea Shepherd Foundation. He has also received instruction by certified Hawaiian historians to share Hawaii’s history along the Kona coast, including the relationship between Hawaiians and the humpback whales. Opey recently organized his own grass-roots environmental research group, Hawaii Marine Research Center, to share his knowledge and experience directly with Hawaii’s children. | email Jonathan |
